Evacuation trip - JULY 2015 - 600.jpg

As part of their History topic about World War 2, Class 2/3C went on the Totnes to Buckfastleigh steam train for a first-hand experience of what war time Evacuees went through. The children dressed in clothes from the era, made sure that they had a gas mask on them at all times and wore a name tag. After a beautiful journey in the steam train travelling beside the River Dart, taking in the spectacular views, they arrived at Buckfastleigh station. There they were able to sit in an old ambulance and learn about the horrifying injuries and the apparatus used on the soldiers. We visited a 'Dig for Victory' garden and sat in an Anderson Shelter. Everyone had an educational and enjoyable day. Miss Carr and Class 2/3C would like to thank Miss Thompson, Miss West, Mrs Bakewell and Miss Daw for helping to make the trip a success.
