Dartmouth Academy students celebrate some excellent Sixth Form results
Dartmouth Academy Sixth Form students have again gained some excellent A Level and BTEC Extended Diploma results, preparing them well for university and the future.
This year, the third full year of the Sixth Form, saw a superb 98% pass rate at A level, of which 42% were A*-B grades.
The PE team excelled with half the students gaining a triple Distinction (the same as 3A* grades at A Level) in our BTEC Extended Diploma sports and exercise science course.
Almost half those taking Art A Level achieved an A grade and in Photography A Level 90% of students gained a grade C or better.
The students celebrated their results when they came on Thursday morning with almost every one getting what they need to follow their plans for next year.
One of our stars, Kelly Tucker, recent winner of the Rotary Young Dartmouthian award, gained 3 Distinctions (A grades) and a grade D in Psychology A Level. She will now follow her dream and train to be a PE teacher at Brighton University. She has been a real asset to the Academy and the students as she has completed over 100 hours voluntary work with the PE department.
Laura Paine and Charlie Smith complemented their excellent performance in Sports Science with an A in Art and C in Media respectively. Jess McCoy achieved 3 Distinctions and also did brilliantly to achieve success in her equine management course, a course she studied online showing great personal determination.
These results mean that the Academy is achieving its aim of improving results year on year.
Principal Nick Hindmarsh said he was quietly satisfied with the results, outcomes that show the Academy continues to make good progress. Luke Payne, Head of Sixth Form said “I am particularly pleased to see that those students who had made the most effort got the better grades; this effort has been fairly rewarded by the exam boards.
