Chris travels to Tajikistan for Taekwondo World Championships!
During the summer break, Dartmouth Academy Year 11 student Chris Wright (pictured above with his team) travelled all the way to Tajikistan in South East Asia to compete in the Taekwondo World Championships. Chris flew out from Gatwick Airport with his team to compete in the tournament which was held in the city of Dushanbe from the 3rd-10th August. Upon arriving in Tajikistan, Chris spent two days practising with the other members of the England team of nine before the competition started proper. During the competition, Chris competed in three spars in four days and said, "I really enjoyed fighting against world class fighters from the other countries but it was very different to the European Championships. It was really hot in Tajikistan and I've not fought in that kind of heat before which made it more difficult." Chris didn't come away from the tournament with any medals this time but was really glad to have the opportunity to travel to Tajikistan and to compete at such a high level tournament. Chris's next tournament will be at the English Open in Guildford during November and we wish him the best of luck!
