Year 5 and 6 students showcase their work at special 'Open Hour'

Just before the half term break, students and staff from Years 5 and 6 held an 'Open Hour' to showcase and celebrate work and homelearning during the half term. There was an impressive amount of high quality pieces of homelearning that the children had been working on throughout the half term on display. Among all the amazing work, Finley Grainger made a figurehead of his hero Harry Potter, including his well-known circular glasses and Morgan Holmes researched the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, Amelia Earhart. Children had to show courage and confidence to stand up in front of over 60 people! Mr Pemberton timed children for their one minute of fame. Children organised their work into stations to present to parents with each station showcasing a different subject. One had Anglo Saxon villages; it contained the Anglo Saxon reports they had produced as well as 3D models of their Anglo Saxon villages. There was a Solar System station which contained a narrative writing of Pandora and some children showed parents what their Maths lessons are like at the Academy. For example, Snappy Maths, which is where children are tested with quickfire mental arithmetic questions. There was also a Snappy Maths workshop. Charlie Gordon was fantastic at explaining Read Write Ink to show parents what support children get with reading and spellings. Miss Chivers commented, “it was a fantastic way to celebrate learning and great to get to know the parents.” In summary, it was a great morning where we celebrated our excellent learning at school and home! By Vaughan Fletcher, Year 6 and Rhys Giles Year 5.
