Mrs Eggleton attends special training day to learn about sailing opportunities for young people
Dartmouth Academy Teacher Hettie Eggleton recently attended an open day for teachers on Leader, a Trinity Sailing Trust boat in Brixham. This boat is part of a small fleet of historic vessels based in Brixham. The aim of the Trinity Sailing Trust is to provide sailing training opportunities for young people, including residentials and expeditions for Duke of Edinburgh Award, RYA courses and various other certificates. The trust's website offers an excellent summary of what to do for anyone who would like to get involved with sailing on one of their historic boats. Mrs Eggleton said; "We spent a lovely day sailing with members of the trust's office team and the crew of Leader, learning about the boat, rigging, sails, steering and also finding out about the various opportunities and packages that Trinity offers for sailing trips. We sailed out into Torbay and had a wonderful windy day on the water, including a delicious lunch, freshly baked biscuits, plenty of tea and coffee and interesting chats with the crew members." If anyone wants to find out more, email hettie.eggleton@dartmouthacademy.org.uk or visit the Trinity website, www.trinitysailing.org. Academy students will also be able to find out more at some special assemblies coming up soon.
