Winter Fayre a great success in new Academy building
After two years of holding the Academy's Winter Fayre at Dartmouth's Market Square, Friday 12th December saw the event return to the Academy site. With the new buildings and facilities now complete, the Academy provided the perfect environment to hold the Christmas celebration.
Dartmouth Academy Friends, the Academy's PTA, worked hard on creating a fantastic event for all the family. A number of local businesses set up stalls selling crafts, Christmas gifts and seasonal treats to parents, children and visiting members of the community. Parents and excited children queued up to see Santa in his grotto that had been set up in the Springboard area. Also, student helpers had provided games for visitors to have a go at.
The Academy's Steel Band and Guitar Ensemble provided musical entertainment to further add to the Christmas mood and delicious food was served in The View restaurant by Mr Bowles and Mr Wood dressed an elf and a reindeer!
The Committee of the Dartmouth Academy Friends would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported the event, whether it was making cakes or items to sell, holding a stall, donating a raffle prize, or helping set up and clear away.
The event raised around £600 for Dartmouth Academy Friends who will use the money to fund future projects within the Academy. Many positive comments were received, most of which were about the students and how helpful and friendly they were and stall holders said they are looking forward to coming again next year.
The Friends are always looking for volunteers to help out with organising fundraising events for various Academy projects and initiatives. If you're interested in finding out about how you can get involved, please email briony.heard@dartmouthacademy.org.uk.
