Fantastic theatre going opportunities for Academy students
We are always looking for ways to give our students a wider cultural experience and we aim to give each year group the opportunity to go to the theatre once every year. We are fortunate to be less than an hour away from one of the best theatres in the country, Plymouth's Theatre Royal, and this year they are showing some fantastic productions that will strongly enhance Dartmouth Academy students' learning in both English and Drama. On Thursday 5th March, Year 11 students will be going to see Frantic Assembly’s radical production of Mark Haddon’s 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time'. This critically acclaimed touring production has won no less than seven Olivier Awards! Students in Year 10 have the chance to see the acclaimed production of Harper Lee’s ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ on Thursday 16th April. The play is the students' English GCSE text for Year 10. This utterly enchanting and enthralling production from London’s award-winning Regent’s Park Theatre captures the warmth and poignancy of this best-loved classic with genuine heart and emotional depth. A story as moving and magical as you could ever hope to find. Finally, on Wednesday 20th May, Year 9 students are being given the opportunity to the see long-running production of Susan Hill’s ‘The Woman in Black’. Now celebrating 25 years in the West End, this play is a marvellous exercise in tension, spun from perfectly paced storytelling that has enthralled over seven million people since its original debut. Each of the above opportunities promise to be a night to remember and will greatly underpin the students' learning. Letters have been sent home with students containing more information about the trips, if your copy has been mislaid for any reason, they can be found on the Letters Page of the Academy website. Please ensure permission slips and payment are handed in by the date specified on the letter.
