Sixth Form at Dartmouth Academy

As many readers will be aware, Dartmouth Academy opened its own Sixth Form in September 2011. Since it opened we have maintained a small but highly bespoke range of GCSE and A Level courses and this continues next year with the provision of the Level 2 NVQ in Child Care being added to the curriculum, running alongside Level 3 BTEC in Sports Science. We are now a part of a new multi academy trust, Academies South West, and are providing post-16 education in partnership with Kingsbridge Community College (KCC). This is a new partnership and one that is developing with the clear aim of providing the best opportunities for all the learners in our communities, while offering a wider range of courses locally for all our students. In September, students in Year 13 will continue to study their subjects at Dartmouth Academy, while students in Year 12 will study subjects either at Dartmouth or Kingsbridge. The past two months have seen all our students receive individual and personalised guidance about their choices for Sixth Form, employment and college. The quality of this has been exceptional this year and has been a model of how the staff here and at Kingsbridge, working together, are able to support our students better than before. This has taken place in conjunction with our careers programme, which has supported our students in their decision making for post-16 progression for September and included a careers day, progression assemblies, a visit to KCC for an open day, a personalised progression meeting and a transition morning at KCC. As I am sure you would agree, a comprehensive package of support and guidance. This is change - but change with the intent of improving the opportunities for the young people served by Dartmouth Academy as a part of Academies South West. If you should have any questions about this, then please contact Luke Payne, Head of Sixth Form at Dartmouth Academy.
