Food for thought for Year 6 in SATs week

Last week, Year 6 students across the country took their their SATs (Standard Assessment Tests). The tests are designed to assess the amount of progress of students at the end of their primary education before they move up into Year 7. Year 6 have been preparing all year for the tests with focused learning activities concentrating on the skills and knowledge needed for the SATs. As the week grew closer, the students attended extra-curricular after school clubs and intervention sessions and they participated in a special 'SATs walk-through', which allowed them to experience the process of taking the tests. Also, individual 'Easter SATs Support Packs' were produced by Year 6 teachers Mr Pemberton and Miss Chivers for each student. As in previous years, all the Year 6 students were treated to a free breakfast in the Academy's restaurant, 'The View'. Children tucked into bowls of cereal, toast and croissants with and orange juice, whilst the teachers gave them last minute tips. The children even made quizzes for each other to complete. Having full stomachs helped the students to concentrate as best they could during the four days of tests. Vice Principal Nick Bowles said, "I'm so proud of how hard the students have worked towards the tests and we're now looking forward to finding out the results in July. "Well done to all of the students for conducting themselves with such a mature attitude and calm manner during the week."
