Dragon's Den doesn't daunt our Dartmouth students

Back in issue 155 of our newsletter, we told you about the Year 9 Skills Day Property Challenge organised by Education Business Group SW and Martin Cavanna of Cavanna Homes. The project for the day was to design a layout for a housing estate with different types of houses and considering sustainable features in their buildings. They had to work in teams taking various roles to complete the project and then presented their ideas to the rest of the class. The winner was H4H, pictured above. As the overall winners the team were then invited to the inter-school competition held at Ashfords Solicitors in Exeter on Monday the 6th of July. The team had little time to prepare but pulled off their presentation with a 3D revolving image of one of their designs for a house with solar panels and a 3D model of the final layout of the housing estate both of which the judges commented on. Lucy Branton was interviewed by the local press about her 3D image and she commented that she had been thinking of architecture as a future career so had really enjoyed this challenge. The students from all the schools were given a presentation by Cavanna Homes and Ashford Solictors on the different careers within each area and the different pathways students can take to get to the career they want. The winning team on the day was a team from Clyst Vale School but a big congratulations goes to our team for doing their presentation, Dragon’s Den style, in front of some high powered judges!
