Music Festival 2016

The 2016 Dart Music Festival was a great success for all performers involved.

The Primary phase students opened this years’ festival by singing the Dartmouth Anthem along with other Primary schools from the area, before wowing the crowds with their renditions of “Not the Only One” by Sam Smith and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” as sung by Tina Turner. Their performance was bright, energetic and full of volume! A great way to kick off the show.

The secondary phase students joined the stage at 4pm to add their musical know how to the proceedings. The wind band opened this section of the event, being followed by steel band. The Academy choir joined forces this year with Drumline to perform a traditional African song, which got the audience clapping along.

The students from the Year 9 GCSE Music group performed two numbers before handing over to the Year 10 GCSE Music students who gave great performances of their versions of “Crazy” by Gnarls Berkely and “Yellow” by Coldplay. As always, the Dartmouth Academy set was rounded off by the Guitar Ensemble who got the crowds rocking to their “Rock Medley”.

Mr Chamberlain, Head of Performing Arts, said “This was yet another great year for us at the Dart Music Festival. It is a great to be asked to open the Music Festival with musical items from our students, and our Music students never fail to put in wonderful performances!

I’d like to thank all the students for their hard work and dedication, and also the peripatetic team who also work tirelessly to enable our students to show such high quality work”.
