Music students join advanced musicians at orchestral workshop
On Friday 20th March members of the prestigious Devon Youth Orchestras including Dartmouth Academy students Elleesse Goodwin and Georgia Hammoudeh Webb, took part in leading an orchestral workshop for young musicians at Okehampton College. The workshop was based around repertoire from the BBC Ten Pieces programme and involved advanced musicians from Okehampton College as well as a large number of younger players from the successful Okehampton Music Centre.
As well as full orchestral sessions with Devon Youth Orchestras conductor, Paul Painter, there were sectional workshops with instrumental specialists and a showing of excerpts from the BBC Ten Pieces DVD. The day ended with an excellent final performance of all the works explored during the day.
This was an excellent opportunity for younger players to play in a full sized orchestra and for more advanced players to help encourage those at the start of their musical journey. Many thanks to all schools for allowing students to be part of such a valuable experience.
